About Us:
The Story of My Home Life
Overview
My Home Life is an international movement that seeks to enhance the quality of life of those who live, die, work in and visit care homes.
A core tenet of the work of My Home Life is an innovative, evidence-informed, Leadership & Cultural Development programme developed in partnership with the care home sector.
The My Home Life movement is based around four evidence-informed frameworks:
1. Developing best practice together
2. Focusing on relationships
3. Being appreciative
4. Having caring conversations

My Home Life Origins
My Home Life was originally founded in 2006 by Help the Aged (now Age UK) in partnership with the National Care Forum and City, University of London and a core group of influential care organisations at the time.
My Home Life wanted to focus positively on care homes, sharing best practice and inspirational stories of success. Core to this aspiration was supporting care homes to notice and share best practice and high quality care, and build on the learning from those stories to enhance the quality of life for residents, staff and visitors.
Since 2006 we have successfully created a strong social movement for quality improvement in care homes that has spread nationally and internationally.
We are pioneers of a relationship-centred approach which genuinely values all involved in the care experience, namely: residents, their families and friends, staff, and others who visit care homes, including community members, health & social care colleagues, regulators and other partners. Authentic curiosity about what matters to people is at the heart of the My Home Life approach to enhancing quality of life and the everyday experiences of residents, staff, families and visitors. Within My Home Life, actions for improvement are considered to be most meaningful and sustainable when they are inspired by this authentic curiosity and are co-created with those directly impacted and involved in bringing improvements to life.
The My Home Life delivery partners also undertake a range of research projects and develop bespoke training & development offerings, as well as working with care home managers & staff on quality improvement initiatives such as: responding to complaints, developing best practice guidelines to support the person moving to a care home, and co-designing resources to support connection in care homes.
These programmes of work, all of which have been underpinned by the My Home Life frameworks, have built on the original Leadership and Cultural Development programme, while being responsive to emerging needs and interests within the care home and wider health and social care sector.
