Rights Made Real Phase 1
Rights Made Real Phase 1
Rights Made Real in Care Homes was funded by the Life Changes Trust and delivered in partnership with Scottish Care and the University of the West of Scotland. The overall aim was to improve the quality of life of those living in a care home and to help support staff to not only recognise but embed human rights into their everyday practice.
The initiative funded 7 creative and innovative projects and ways of working to benefit people living with dementia and show others how to make rights real in care homes. All of the projects showed a commitment to ensuring that older people, including those living with dementia, have a right to maintain strong connections with family and friends, with their communities and with the things that matter to them regardless of where they live.

Trying to Keep Connected
Trying to Keep Connected is a range of resources which tell of the experiences of care home residents, relatives and staff during Covid-19 lockdown.
The resources were developed as part of the Rights Made Real project. Those involved in this project expressed a desire for a testimony to be created of how Covid-19 impacted on day-to-day life in care homes. In Spring of 2021 residents, relatives and staff from four care homes shared their stories of what life had been like for them over the previous year. The hope for sharing these stories was that they can serve as an account of this time, as well as a resource to inform future discussions about human rights in care homes.
